Up for sale is a Minute Repeating Clockwatch, Swiss 18k Yellow Gold Demi Hunter, Two Train Min. Repeater, Perpetual Calendar, Chronograph. Circa 1900s. This clock watch a present by The Nizam to Ahmed Husein. This pocket watch has 3 subdials and a moonphase dial. Dual wind, one direction winds the time, the opposite directions winds the chime. 56mm. This clock watch is in excellent vintage condition. Inventory: 21131
The present watch was presented by Mir Osman Ali Khan (1886-1967), the Seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, to a loyal
subject, Maulvi Ahmed Hussain. The Nizams were the ruling family of the princely state of Hyderabad and accumulated vast wealth after retaining power since 1719. The Seventh Nizam ascended into power in 1911 and reigned until 1948 when the state was merged with the Union of India. During his reign, the Nizam was regarded as
the richest man in the world and had a fortune estimated at $2 billion in the early 1940s. He was loyal ally of the British and shared vast monetary and material wealth in support of the British in WWI and WWII.
The Nizam was a collector of monumental proportions and accumulated over 200 Rolls Royce cars, an endless list of
important diamonds including the 184.5 Jacob Diamond, and understood the importance of giving a superlative watch
as a gift. The retailer who sold this watch to the Nizam was
